'Himpunan Pembebasan Palestin' Rally: Police Ready To Ensure Smooth Traffic Flow

04/08/2024 07:05 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- A total of 65 traffic officers have been assigned to manage traffic to ensure smooth flow around Axiata Arena Stadium, Bukit Jalil, which will host the ‘Himpunan Pembebasan Palestin’ rally later today.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said that all public car parks have been instructed to open to allow attendees to park their vehicles.

"Motorists are prohibited from parking on roadsides to avoid congestion and obstruction and they are advised to follow the instructions of the traffic officers on duty," he said when contacted this afternoon.

Meanwhile, checks by Bernama at 4.30 pm show that although there has been an increase in the number of vehicles, traffic flow on the main roads and highways leading to Bukit Jalil remains smooth.

It is anticipated that traffic will become congested later in the evening due to the arrival of people attending the rally, which is organised to show Malaysia’s solidarity and undivided support for the Palestinian people.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil had been previously reported to have said that about 20,000 people are expected to attend the stadium to express their support for the Palestinian people.

Scheduled to begin at 6 pm, the rally aims, among other things, to convey to the world that Malaysia condemns the killing of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, and opposes the ongoing brutality of the Zionist regime.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is also expected to deliver a keynote speech at the rally’s climax to express support for the Palestinian struggle, alongside several other leaders.

The programme includes talks on Palestinian solidarity, congregational Maghrib prayers, a special video screening and ends with Qunut Nazilah prayers.
