'The Story Of China And Malaysia' Book Launched To Commemorate 50th Anniversary Ties

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The book, The Story of China and Malaysia, to mark the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations was launched today to celebrate friendship, cooperation and mutual respect between Malaysia and China. 

Edited by former Chinese ambassadors to Malaysia, Dr Huang Huikang and Hu Zhengyue, the book stands as a testament to the vibrant and dynamic relationship between the two nations. 

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in his speech, said the book launch also signified a shared journey of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect between Malaysia and China that has spanned half a century. 

“As we celebrate this golden jubilee, let us renew our commitment to deepening the ties that bind Malaysia and China. Let us continue to work hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, to build a future brimming with peace, prosperity and mutual respect,” he said. 

His speech text was read out by Rural and Regional Development Ministry secretary-general Datuk Muhd Khair Razman Mohamed Annuar who had represented him at the event, held at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation. 

The book has four sections namely memories, characters, collaborations and humanities, told in a  comprehensive narrative that beautifully captures the friendship and cooperation between Malaysia and China from a multitude of perspective. 

Huang, one of the editors of the book, in a video showed during the launch said 50 years ago, Malaysia made a strategic choice (to establish relations with China) and since then, both countries have gone through all challenges to make the bilateral ties the best time in history. 

And now, both countries are building up a community of shared future, he added. 

MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, in his speech, said Malaysia and China should reaffirm their commitment to deepening the bilateral ties and fostering greater understanding between the people. 

The book launch was followed by a forum discussion on the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.
