PARIS, Aug 7 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Brazil upset World Cup holders Spain 4-2 on Tuesday to secure a spot in the women's football final at the Paris Olympics, reported Xinhua news agency.

Gabi Portilho starred for Brazil, scoring once and assisting another goal. Brazil will face the United States (US) in the final.

Despite Spain's two late goals from Salma Paralluelo, Brazil's dominance was evident.

An own goal by Spain’s goalkeeper Cata Coll gave Brazil an early lead, followed by Portilho's goal in first-half injury time and Adriana's header in the 72nd minute.

Kerolin added Brazil's fourth in injury time, before Paralluelo scored her second for Spain, making it 4-2.

In the other semifinal, Sophia Smith's extra-time goal led the US to a 1-0 victory over Germany. This marks the first Olympic final for the US since London 2012.

Brazil previously reached the final in 2004 and 2008 but lost to the US on both occasions.
