MOSCOW, Aug. 7 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said he held talks with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Bagheri Kani, during which he warned the Iranian diplomat of the risk of further escalation of tensions in the Middle East, reported Sputnik.
"Further escalation in the Middle East is in no one’s interests. I spoke to Iran's acting Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, and cautioned that any Iranian attack would have devastating consequences for the region," Lammy said on X on Tuesday.
He added that Iran and all conflicting parties must immediately resort to de-escalation.
Iran is reportedly preparing to attack Israel soon after Hamas political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed by an Israeli strike in Tehran last week. The movement blamed Israel and the United States for Haniyeh's death and said the attack would not go unanswered.
