Nenggiri Polls: Voters' Opportunity To Seek Change For Better State Leadership - Bung Moktar

07/08/2024 06:04 PM

GUA MUSANG, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Voters in the Nenggiri state constituency need to take the opportunity of the by-election there to send a clear signal to the PAS-led Kelantan government that they want a change towards better leadership, said UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

He said that he is also confident that if the by-election result favours Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, it will also be able to change the state's political polemic as a whole.

"We (BN) are faced with problems as long as Kelantan is administered by PAS, such as the land issue. Whatever development the federal government brings, if there is no land, it cannot be implemented.

"Therefore, to change the political polemics in Kelantan it is necessary to start in Nenggiri, if we win then we can make a comprehensive development strategy in Kelantan," he told reporters after  accompanying Mohd Azmawi Fikri to reach out to voters in Kampung Jeram Tekoh, here today.

Commenting further, the Sabah UMNO chairman said that he is confident that Mohd Azmawi Fikri can solve the problems faced by the people in Nenggiri based on his service to the residents of the area for a long time.

"I am confident that the problems will be solved by Mohd Azmawi Fikri little by little because it is necessary to remember that the people need the touch from a people's representative," he said.

The by-election was called following a casual vacancy announced by Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19, after the former incumbent Mohd Azizi Abu Naim ceased to be a member of Bersatu on June 13.

The Election Commission (EC) has set polling day on Aug 17, while early voting on Aug 13 will not be held as all 14 voters involved have opted to vote by post due to their duties during the campaign period.

The Nenggiri by-election sees a straight fight between Mohd Azmawi Fikri, who is representing the Unity Government, and Mohd Rizwadi Ismail, from Perikatan Nasional (PN-Bersatu), who is contesting using the PAS logo.
