SINGAPORE, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysian floral designer Jun Lim won the 13th International FDSS Cup Floral Designing Competition, Singapore’s premier floral design competition featuring top international talents, on Wednesday.

Lim, 37, a seasoned competitor since 2010, secured the top spot after finishing third in previous attempts in 2014, 2018, and 2022. She missed the 2016 edition because she was on maternity leave.

The competition at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre was organised by the Floral Designers Society (Singapore) (FDSS) in conjunction with the Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) 2024, and featured 19 participants from nine countries such as South Korea, Hong Kong and Macau.

“This year’s displays were of exceptionally high standards which made winning the competition even more meaningful.

“I came in with no expectations as floral design is essentially an art form and as such, can be viewed differently by the judging panel each year,” she was quoted in a joint statement by the National Parks Board (NParks) and SGF.

Lim, who hails from Johor Bahru, received S$1,000 cash (S$1=RM3.38), a trophy and certificate.

South Koreans Yun Junseo and Kim Hyojeong finished in second and third place, respectively, with Yun taking home S$800 and Kim S$600.

Another Malaysian, Junna Teh Tzy Ting, meanwhile walked away with the Merit Awards, together with Cao Xue from China, and Singaporean, Law Choon Poh.

The competition, for the first time, is unified under one theme “Designing and Sustainability in Floristry”, incorporating the 3Rs of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle into the design tasks.

Designers were required to create three designs within a total time limit of four hours and 15 minutes, and were judged by world-renowned floral designers including Ahti Lyra (Estonia), Hiroto Inoue (Japan) and Iza Tkaczyk (Poland).
