SACC Shopping Centre To Make Way For A World Standard Exhibition Centre

08/08/2024 06:07 PM

SHAH ALAM, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The SACC (Shah Alam City Centre) shopping centre will be demolished to make way for the construction of a world-class exhibition centre, said Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) group chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abbas.

He said the redevelopment work at the shopping centre site in Section 14 which is expected to start at the end of 2026 is part of the Shah Alam city rejuvenation planning through the development of the SA Sentral Project.

"The development of SA Sentral which is estimated to cost RM2 billion will involve several plots in the Section 14 area starting from PKNS Headquarters, Plaza Alam Sentral, Plaza Perangsang, SACC Mall, SACC Convention Centre and PKNS Complex.

"This SA Sentral project only involves the demolition of the SACC Mall building where we will use the land and parking lot in front of it to build an international standard exhibition centre directly connected to the SACC Convention Centre," he said.

He said this at a press conference after the "PKNS The Future-Proofing Selangor's Real Estate Opportunities" forum in conjunction with the agency's 60th anniversary here today.

Mahmud said traders at the shopping centre, estimated at 200 people, had been informed about the demolition and development plans of SA Sentral where those involved would be moved to business spaces at Plaza Alam Sentral and Plaza Perangsang.

He said the move also took into account the business activity at the shopping centre which was not very encouraging after the COVID-19 pandemic when the public are more inclined to make purchases online.

He said most of the products or goods sold at the shopping centre are also more or less the same as what is offered at PKNS Complex, which also affects the sales of the traders there.

Mahmud said the demolition of SACC Mall also did not involve the payment of compensation by the PKNS to the traders.

"However, as a developer, PKNS will look at the welfare of the traders and will ensure that they have businesses in the SA Sentral development area later," he said.
