BANGKOK, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has called on all parties and the Thai people to respect the Constitutional Court’s decision on the dissolution of the Move Forward Party (MFP).

Director General of the Department of Information and MFA spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura said the decision of the dissolution of MFP is within the exclusive authority of the Constitutional court, based on the established laws and constitution.

"In accordance with the principle of separation of the power under the constitution, the deliberation of the Court cannot be subjected to interference or intervention by any other entity nor by the government. The decision is legally binding and must be respected by all Thais," he said in a video clip on Thursday (Aug 8).

Thailand's Constitutional Court has on Wednesday (Aug 7) ruled to dissolve the MFP and revoked the electoral rights of its executive committee members for 10 years for attempting to upend constitutional democracy through the support of its flagship campaign to amend Section 112 of the Criminal Code, also known as the lese majeste law.

In addition to the dissolution, the court imposed a 10-year political ban on MFP’s 11 party executives who held positions between March 25, 2021 to July 31, 2024.

Nikorndej said Thailand will continue to adhere to democratic values enshrined in its constitution, and as a party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Thailand reiterated its commitment to the rights of freedom of expression, freedom of association, peaceful assembly, and the freedom to form political parties.

He also said that Thailand will firmly continue with its tradition and democratic system with pride and dignity.

"We sincerely believe that all Thai people will respect the court decision and proceed together in advancing the country along its democratic part," he said.
