BANGKOK, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- An explosion at a shipyard in Bang Sai district of Ayutthaya province in central Thailand, north of Bangkok, killed two workers and injured seven others on Friday.

The incident, which occurred around 2 pm local time on Friday, is believed to have been caused by sparks from welding that ignited fresh paint on the dock, which contained a flammable thinner, leading to the explosion.

Bang Sai district chief Somyot Ketsawan said the explosion occurred at the pontoon, not the boat.

"There were two fatalities, both migrant workers, and seven others were injured, with one in critical condition. They have been transferred to Sena Hospital for further treatment," he told reporters here Friday.

However, Somyot said the cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
