Malaysia Day Preparations On Track In Sabah - Fahmi

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- Preparations for the Malaysia Day celebration to be held on Sept 16 at Padang Merdeka here are proceeding smoothly, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said Sabah is hosting this year’s celebration, which will begin at 8 pm and feature several exciting activities and performances.

He said the event will include cultural performances, traditional and contemporary songs, as well as exhibitions highlighting the history of Malaysia's formation and key aspects related to the nation.

"There are some protocol-related aspects that we will witness every Malaysia Day (Sept 16), but at the same time, there will be additional activities, particularly cultural performances.

"That is what will set each celebration apart from the others. Therefore, I urge the people of Sabah to come out in large numbers and celebrate Malaysia Day," he told reporters here today.

Earlier, Fahmi and Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew co-chaired the Malaysia Day Main Committee Meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre here.

Fahmi said among the guests expected to attend are Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Menteri Besar and foreign representatives.

Meanwhile, Liew said at the Sabah state level, several coordination meetings had been held, including at the main committee level which she chaired, to ensure the smooth implementation of this year's celebration.

She hopes that through the meetings, the committee will be able to discuss and work together to ensure the success of the Malaysia Day 2024 celebration.

"With the cooperation, support and commitment given by all, I am confident that this year's Malaysia Day celebration will be smooth, lively and successful," Liew said.
