BANGKOK, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Thailand plans to curb substandard imported goods, copyright infringement and illegal goods from entering its market to protect Thai entrepreneurs and consumers.

Thai Government spokesperson, Chai Wacharonke, said Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has ordered all relevant ministries and agencies to impose measures to control the quality of imported products for sale in Thailand in order to protect the interests of consumers and entrepreneurs from being affected.

According to Chai, Srettha has ordered inspections of the standard of imported products and enforcement of laws by all relevant agencies without exception.

"The government, through the Commerce Ministry and related agencies, has responded to the policy by discussing measures to control the standards of imported goods to create confidence in the quality and standard of products and services for domestic consumers," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Chai said, that for imported goods sold in offline formats, relevant agencies will conduct inspections on the standard of these goods in the market, including their compliance with the laws governing imports and distribution of goods in Thailand.

As for measures to control the quality of products imported through online formats, Customs will conduct checks on the top 10 products imported through online purchases.

The government is also considering regulating online sales platforms in Thailand, such as requiring the establishment of a representative office in the country or registering a business locally, he noted.
