Leona Chin secures podium finish at Malaysia Championship Series Round 3

SEPANG, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysian motorsport star Leona Chin, alongside her co-driver, Mark Chew of the Castrol Racing Team, delivered a stellar performance and secured a podium finish at the Malaysia Championship Series (MCS) Round 3, held at the Sepang Circuit on Aug 10 and 11.

According to a statement issued by the team, the drivers were competing in the SP2-V category with their Suzuki Swift, securing a hard-fought second place, and demonstrating their exceptional driving skills and strategic prowess.

Facing a highly competitive field with 55 cars across the MTC and SP2 classes, the SP2-V category featured 19 entries exclusively for Suzuki Swift models in which the Castrol Racing Team secured a commendable fifth place on the grid during Friday’s qualifying session, clocking a time of two minutes 45 seconds (s).

Leona, in the same statement, said that starting from fifth position on the race day, Mark has demonstrated impressive driving, quickly advancing the team to second place.

“His strategic manoeuvres and precise control maintained our position through the initial stages of the race,” she said.

Mark handed the wheel over to Leona during the pit stop, and she continued the race with exceptional focus and precision.

Leona’s performance was instrumental in keeping the car in second place for the remaining 18 laps.

The team crossed the finish line with a total time of 54:24.309s, just 0.257s behind the race winner and securing valuable championship points.

Leona said the podium finish highlights the Castrol Racing Team's competitive edge and sets a strong precedent as they prepare for the upcoming MCS 300 km endurance race scheduled for Sept 6 to 8.

“The team is eager to build on this recent success and push for additional championship points in the next round,” she said.
