KUCHING, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Following are snippets on the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) which will officially begin tomorrow

FELINE PHENOM

For anyone making a first trip to the city centre, it’s only natural to snap some photos of the famous cat statues there.

One of the most popular locations is the Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman traffic light where one may even have to queue up for the chance to take a picture with the seven cat statues there.

Day or night, you’ll find many people busy taking videos or photos of the cats, affectionately known as ‘pusak’ by the locals.

PROTECT AT ALL COST

A document in lieu of internal travel is given to Malaysians from the peninsula and Sabah upon arrival in Sarawak.

At first glance, this white slip of paper looks just like any other purchase receipt. But do not discard or lose it as you will need to return it during the Immigration check before leaving the state.

If you lose it, make sure you lodge a police report.

BEWARE OR YOUR RM250 WILL GO UP IN SMOKE!

If you are at any of the SUKMA venues, make sure you do not light up your cigarettes as your every move is being monitored by Health Department enforcement officers.

If you do, be prepared to part with RM250 - that’s the fine you’ll receive!

The Ministry of Health strictly enforces smoking bans at several public places, such as government premises, hospitals and eateries.

MITA CAKE

In the past, visitors to Sarawak would surely look for kek lapis and ikan terubuk, both synonymous with the Land of the Hornbills.

However, ever since it went viral on social media, kek mita (a type of butter cake) has stolen the spotlight.

Some of those who have just arrived to cover the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) have even placed their orders early, fearing they might miss out on this highly sought-after treat.
