Sustainable Strategy Needs To Be Implemented To Resolve Issue Of Hawkers, Small Traders - G3PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Federation of Hawkers and Petty Traders Association (G3PM) said a strategy ensuring that locals and not foreigners are hawkers and small traders needs to be implemented to resolve this issue in the city.

Its president, Datuk Seri Rosli Sulaiman said for this, his team has recommended that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) implement stricter enforcement actions, so that foreigners do not do business in this sector (hawkers and small traders).

“If not controlled, foreign nationals doing business arbitrarily will damage the economy and there will be deliberate competition without restrictions, and it will harm the local economy," he said in a special press conference on the issues faced by Kuala Lumpur hawkers and traders here today.

He said there needs to be more patrols by enforcement officers to ensure food and drink premises in the city are guaranteed halal and clean.

He said there are still many food and drink premises that are suspicious from the aspect of being halal-certified and hygienic.

"This requires emphasis from the DBKL Health and Environment Department, especially in monitoring the hygiene aspects of the preparation and sale of products from the premises involved," he said.

In another matter, he said his team will propose to Lembah Pantai member of parliament Fahmi Fadzil on building a market in the parliamentary constituency.

“There are many residents in Lembah Pantai, but there is still no market for them to buy their daily foodstuff,” he also said.

“I will raise this matter with Fahmi so that he can suggest to DBKL to set up a market in his area. I hope this will be taken into account in the presentation of the Budget 2025 later," he added.
