KUCHING, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Sarawak benefited from two own goals as they stunned defending champions Federal Territories (FT) 3-1 to check into the semi-finals of the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) futsal competition today.

Sarawak, under the guidance of coach Faizal Zamri, shot into a 1-0 lead after just five minutes when Mohamad Nazrul Nizam Nazri scored an own goal at the Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium near here.

The home team doubled their lead in the 32nd minute through Awang Ifran Syahreeza Awang Ahmad but FT narrowed the deficit two minutes later through skipper Aisar Azhar.

But, just five minutes later, Aisar went from hero to zero when he scored an own goal for Sarawak to seal a 3-1 victory.

In Wednesday’s (Aug 20) semi-final, Sarawak will take on Perak, who trounced Terengganu 8-2 in the other quarter-final clash.

The other semi-final will see Penang taking on Selangor. In today’s quarter-finals, Penang edged Pahang 4-3 on penalties after both teams were tied 3-3 in regulation time while Selangor downed Melaka 6-3.

Futsal was last contested in SUKMA at the 19th edition in Perak in 2028.
