BINTULU, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Sarawak muay thai exponent Muhammad Mikail Ghazali Zulfikar has upheld his family’s golden legacy by clinching the gold in the 51-54 kilogramme (kg) category at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) today.

The 16-year-old, who is the younger brother of national muay thai star Mohammad Johan Ghazali Zulfikar, popularly known as Jojo, made his stunning debut at SUKMA by downing Melaka’s Muhammad Zulfakar Othman with a 24-14 score in the final held at Naim Street Paragon Mall.

Muhammad Mikail’s victory was a crucial part of Sarawak’s strategy to secure two gold medals in muay thai, fulfilling their target.

In the 2022 SUKMA edition in Kuala Lumpur, the Sarawak muay thai team had already celebrated gold wins in the 60-63.5kg category with Jojo and Muhammad Elias Ghazali Zulfikar in the 63.5kg category.

The muay thai events, featuring a total of 18 gold medals, concluded today.
