KUCHING, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Selangor swimmer Andrew Goh bettered his own national record in the men’s 50m breaststroke event at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) today.

The 20-year-old clocked 28.03 seconds (s) in Heat 3 at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre to improve his previous mark of 28.10s set at the 2023 Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur.

It also bettered the SUKMA record of 28.86s set by Melaka’s Foong Wei Tze in the 2018 edition.

Sabah’s Emmanuel Loh Yung Ming finished second with 30.08s in Heat 3 and Pahang’s Loo Jhe Yee third in 30.53s to qualify for the finals later this evening.

On Monday, Andrew broke his own national and Games records en route to winning the 100m breaststroke gold. He clocked 1:01.39s to erase his national mark of 1:02.30s set at the 2024 Malaysia Open and Wong Fu Kang’s SUKMA time of 1:03.05s set in the 2016 edition.

Meanwhile, Isabelle Chiyi Buckley of the Federal Territories was also in Games record-breaking mood when she clocked 32.83s in the women’s 50m breaststroke heats to improve on Christina Loh’s 33.29s set at the 2016 edition.
