BATU PAHAT, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The Department of National Unity and National Integration (JPNIN) aims to transform 500 Rukun Tetangga Areas (KRT) across the country into Progressive KRTs next year, after successfully surpassing its target of more than 116 KRTs this year.

JPNIN Director-General Datuk Che Roslan Che Daud said the initial target for this year was to transform one KRT to a Progressive KRT per district and the number has currently reached 121 KRTs.

He hoped that more KRTs in the country, which so far totalled 8,348, would become Progressive KRTs and be a model for other KRTs.

"The selection and rating of a KRT as a Progressive KRT is based on several factors, including its level of activity and economic potential, its ability to generate income, and capacity to develop the area in question."

"This also includes factors related to safety, community well-being, and the presence of unity and cooperation across various levels, such as Tunas Jiran (children), Jiran Muda (youth), and Jiran Wanita," he told reporters after the Johor JPNIN’s Semarak Kemerdekaan programme  State of Johor Independence Day program. 2024 and the Visit to a Progressive KRT at KRT Kampung Satey/Pantai here, today.

Che Roslan said KRTs that have achieved the Progressive KRT status will be monitored every two weeks to ensure they remain active and relevant.

Meanwhile, he said the department does not overlook the KRTs in Sabah and Sarawak and continues to encourage them to develop their own products, especially those featuring interesting handicrafts created by the locals.

"We are currently working to market the products through a combination of direct (physical) and virtual (online) promotions," he said.

In conjunction with National Month, he called on all the KRTs to fly the Jalur Gemilang in their respective residential areas.
