MCPF Proposes Expanding MyTRIP QR Code To All Entry Points

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) is proposing the expansion of the MyTRIP QR Code, introduced for immigration clearance at the Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex on June 1, to all entry points.

MCPF senior vice-chairman, Datuk Seri Ayub Yaakob, stated today that automating this process can reduce reliance on manual clearance for foreign nationals and encourage online visa payments.

He pointed to Singapore's use of a similar system through the MyICA app, as well as Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which utilise e-visas.

"However, despite advanced technology, MCPF sees areas that need improvement to streamline the foreign national clearance process.

“This includes tightening procedures for individual and group clearances at counters to prevent potential bribery by irresponsible parties,” he said, commenting on the arrest of 12 individuals at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) yesterday, who were allegedly involved in illegal clearance operations known as ‘counter setting’.

Ayub also suggested that the government establish smart and effective mechanisms to detect and prevent similar issues from recurring, as well as enforce strict supervision in managing the entry of high-risk foreign nationals.

"Additionally, MCPF fully supports the establishment of the Malaysia Checkpoints and Border Agency (MCBA) to oversee all national entry points, including KLIA. We also urge the prompt formation of a special task force for this enforcement agency, which was approved in the Dewan Rakyat on July 16," he said.

Ayub emphasised the need for stronger action against civil servants who are willing to accept bribes for personal gain, to the point of colluding with criminal syndicates.

"The issue of illegal immigrants is not just about documentation; it also concerns national sovereignty. Uncontrolled entry can lead to various problems in terms of the economy, social stability, and national security," he added.
