IPOH, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- The Ipoh City Council is working together with a state government subsidiary company, Koridor Utiliti Darul Ridzuan (KUDR) to map underground utilities to avoid an untoward incidents involving any project development.

Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said that MBI signed a partnership agreement with KUDR on July 1 and the trial period will last till Dec 31.

"Effectively, we will begin on Jan 1. We are in implementation, but now it’s in development,” he told reporters after attending the Ipoh Low Carbon Day programme here today.

On whether there are any sinkhole hotspots in Ipoh, Rumaizi said the city had tens of hotspots, some that have been identified and in the process of identification with KUDR.

"We and KUDR will identify (the hotspots), then after we know where they are we will refer to experts, the Minerals and Geosciences Department and look at how to overcome it, each case is different,” he said. adding that road conditions in Ipoh were under control, but is dependent on the weather.

Motorists in the city had been asked earlier to obey safety signage at Jalan Kamaruddin Isa in Taman Fair Park here due to upgrading work by MBI on the damaged road there.

Meanwhile, Ipoh district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad in a separate statement said police are carrying out traffic control along the affected route from time to time following complaints from the public regarding the incident at 10.45 this morning.

Therefore, he said the police will implement a road closure starting from 7 pm to 12 midnight tonight at the Jalan Ghazali Jawi traffic light intersection up to the Jalan Raja Ashman Shah (Hospital Road) traffic light intersection closed in one direction, while the route from Jalan Hospital to Jalan Ghazali Jawi is opened as usual.

"The closure of this road is intended to give way to the repair work of the bridge," he said.

He also advised road users, especially Ipoh residents, to plan their journeys and choose alternative routes to avoid being caught in traffic jams during road closures.
