Typhoon Shanshan: Four Killed And 96 Injured In Japan

30/08/2024 05:49 PM

TOKYO, Aug 30 (Bernama-dpa) -- People in Japan remained on edge on Friday as Typhoon Shanshan, which has killed four and injured at least 96, continued moving towards the country's north-east, reported the German news agency (dpa).

The casualty figures were reported by the Japanese television station NHK. This is the country's 10th typhoon of the season.

Although the weather front has weakened since the typhoon struck Kyushu, Japan's south-western main island, early on Thursday morning, it continued to cover large parts of the country with heavy rain. Flooding and damage occurred and traffic was severely disrupted.

Japan's meteorological authority called on residents to remain extremely vigilant due to the increased risk of landslides and flooding.

Three people were killed in a landslide in the central region of Aichi. In Tokushima on Shikoku, the smallest of Japan's four main islands, an 80-year-old man died when the roof of his house collapsed, NHK reported.
