Stop Culture Of Slander, Respect Civil Service Institution - Cuepacs

30/08/2024 07:56 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has urged social media users not to make false and baseless accusations about public service institutions to the detriment of its employees.

Cuepacs president Datuk Dr Adnan Mat said they took the matter seriously and condemned the irresponsible action of spreading defamation aimed at giving a negative perception towards the government and the civil service.

"The culture of making statements publicly on social media just to get attention need not be a practice that should be tolerated, more so since the truth of such matters cannot be verified first,” he said in a statement today.

He also reminded all parties not to relate every incident in the civil service with their own political sentiments because the effect of slander does not stop with an apology, but will create a public perception that is difficult to erase immediately.

"As such, Cuepacs again urges all parties to give the highest respect to the institution of civil service, which has been the backbone of the country's development.

"We are not asking for praise but appropriate respect suffices, with continuous support for us to move forward together,” he said.

At the same time, he also called on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to act firmly against any individual or organisation that intentionally uploads defamatory content against the civil service on social media to create a more disciplined society.

On Wednesday (Aug 28), the Public Service Department (PSD), through a statement on Facebook, reprimanded PAS’ official mouthpiece, Harakahdaily, for painting an inaccurate picture regarding the issue of government staff not at their counters during working hours as their news topic.
