TikTok Launches Digital Literacy Campaign Encouraging Malaysians To #ThinkTwice

05/09/2024 06:51 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- TikTok has launched the #ThinkTwice campaign, aimed at encouraging Malaysians to foster a safer and more positive online environment, in collaboration with the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF), the All Women's Action Society (AWAM), and the Mental Illness Awareness and Support Association (MIASA).

Head of Public Policy for Malaysia at TikTok, Anuar Fariz Fadzil, said that the #ThinkTwice campaign encourages the online community to pause and reflect on what they share, comment, and post, through informative and educational content, webinars, and resources.

He added that the campaign includes an extensive resource hub, offering educational materials on TikTok's Community Guidelines, a guide to the platform's safety features, non-governmental organisation (NGO) support channels, and inspiring content by Malaysia's top creators.

“At TikTok, we encourage our users to have the freedom and opportunity to express themselves, authentically and creatively, in a safe and positive environment.

“Through #ThinkTwice, in partnership with CMCF, AWAM, and MIASA, we aim to encourage Malaysians to take responsibility for their online actions, and contribute to a healthier, more positive online community," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, CMCF chief executive officer Mediha Mahmood highlighted that the #ThinkTwice campaign promotes self-regulation, by encouraging people to be mindful of the content they share, and respectful in their comments.

"Our interactions in the digital world reflect who we are as individuals and as a society. We owe it to ourselves to be a positive example, which others can look up to and follow," she said.

TikTok is also encouraging users to actively contribute to safer communities, by using the #ThinkTwice hashtag to create and share positive, informative content.

TikTok creators such as @yimotapir, @lawyergandhi, @ggatorart and @wfsufina have joined the #ThinkTwice movement, raising awareness and promoting responsible interactions, through their educational and creative content.

In line with World Mental Health Day next month, TikTok, as a leading platform for mobile video, will also host a series of Live Sessions, featuring mental health professionals, experts, and creators.
