450 Pupils Benefit From YOKUK’s Free Tuition Programme

KOTA BHARU, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- The YOKUK Foundation, supported by Yayasan Hasanah, Neumera (M) Sdn Bhd and the Finance Ministry, is implementing the Special Remedial Student Performance Improvement Programme to assist 450 pupils from underprivileged families.

YOKUK chief operation officer Sulaini Mat Il said the programme focuses on pupils who have yet to master the 3M skills -- reading, writing and arithmetic -- and are struggling to keep up with their studies.

“This initiative offers free tuition classes at 23 schools in Kelantan. The pupils received study modules, stationery, free lunches and rewards, while teachers are provided with teaching aids,” she told Bernama today.

Sulaini said the programme, launched in Pasir Puteh district last November, has been rolled out in 13 schools with promising outcomes.

After six months, 131 of the 300 pupils involved have successfully moved on from the programme and are now part of mainstream classes.

“At YOKUK, we believe these pupils deserve additional support and encouragement to foster their interest in learning.

“By doing so, we can improve their academic performance and bridge the learning gap within Malaysia’s education system. These pupils have the potential to excel in the future,” she said.

Sulaini said that in addition to Pasir Puteh, a similar programme was launched in Tumpat in May, involving 150 pupils from 10 selected schools.

Plans are underway to extend the programme to Pasir Mas, targeting 10 schools and benefiting 200 pupils, she added.
