WSC 2024: 15 Malaysian Youths Leave For Lyon In Hunt For Gold

SEPANG, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- A total of 15 skilled Malaysian youths left for Lyon, France today to participate in the WorldSkills Competition 2024 (WSC 2024) to be held from Sept 10 to 16.

The competition will feature 62 skilled areas with Malaysia participating in 14 of them including Robot System Integration, IT Software Solution for Business, Heavy Vehicle Technology and Digital Construction.

Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA) secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusoff said all participants and national experts are expected to give the best commitment and show excellent performance to carry the country's name to a high level on the world stage.

"The aspects of technical skills, knowledge, mental strength, emotional intelligence as well as the safety and health of participants need to be emphasised throughout the competition," he said when speaking at the Worldskills national contingent departure ceremony here today.

He hoped that the participants would show their best skills to win the country’s first gold medal.

“I also want to remind the participants that winning is not only seen from the point of view of the competition, but also from positive personal development through the experience obtained during the competition,” he said.

Malaysia is targeting to win at least three medals at WSC 2024.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said that Malaysia will explore the diversity of technology and good practices in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector at the international level through participation in WSC 2024.

Previously, the media reported that the government provided a special cash incentive of RM40,000 for a gold medal win at the WSC 2024.

The special incentive was a sign of support and encouragement to pursue excellent success at the the competition.

Meanwhile, a silver medalist will receive a reward of RM20,000, while the bronze medalist will receive RM10,000.
