LYON, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- The field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) can no longer be considered a 'second chance' by any party, as it now promises significant job opportunities.

The Department of Skills Development (JPK) director-general Zuleah Darsong said young people enrolling in TVET institutions have a great opportunity to achieve excellent careers and explore opportunities at the international level.

It is said that this matter is also evidenced by the participation of 15 highly skilled Malaysian youth competing at the international level in the WorldSkills (WSC 2024) competition in Lyon, France, starting tomorrow.

"We hope that youths participating in this competition (WSC 2024) will serve as examples for those who are currently pursuing skills education at public or private TVET institutions, as well as for students who will be entering TVET."

"TVET, as people say, offers career opportunities in the future, as long as they are genuinely interested in pursuing studies or training at TVET skill institutes. God willing, success will be with us," he told Bernama while inspecting preparations for the WSC 2024 event here today.

Elaborating further, Zuleah stated that the skills of youth is indeed necessary for the country to progress in line with the current technological advancements.

"We see that jobs now require them to have high skills," he said. Regarding the final preparations of the participants for WSC 2024, he stated that the preparations for all the youth to face the competition was progressing smoothly.

"Participants today were given the opportunity to hone their skills at the new workstation where they will be competing. Today, they showed such a confident spirit, eager to begin their struggle," he said.

At the WSC 2024, Malaysia is represented by 15 skilled youth consisting of students from Public Skills Training Institutions and Higher Education Institutions across the country who will compete in 14 skill areas out of 62 skill areas contested.

The WSC 2024 starts tomorrow and runs until Sept 15, featuring 62 skill areas, with Malaysia participating in 14 fields including Robot System Integration, IT Software Solutions for Business, Heavy Vehicle Technology, and Digital Construction.
