ALOR SETAR, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Six national records were broken in the kayak events at the Higher Education Institution Games (SUKIPT) 2024, which concluded yesterday at Timah Tasoh Lake, Perlis.

The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) said the record breakers would get to share a RM20,000 incentive it offered for excellence.

"Three of the six national records were over 10 years old, with Siti Nurqasrina Syahzanani Mustapa breaking one in the women’s TK2 event with a new time of 57.29s during the heats on Sept 7," it said in a statement.

The Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) student smashed the previous national record of 58.435s set by Nur Amirah Anisah Abdul Kadir from Johor at the 2014 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Perlis.

Meanwhile, Nik Afiq Nik Mazli, representing Kolej Polytec, set a national record in the men’s TK1 event with a time of 42.97s during the first heat on Sept 7, surpassing the previous record of 46.857s set by Muhammad Ridzuan Abdul Aziz at SUKMA Perlis 2014.

The pair of Marina Muzaffa and Aisyah Farhanah Azwan from UiTM also broke another 10-year-old national record in the women’s K2 event, with a time of 43.19s in the final. They surpassed the previous record set by Syahida Asyiqin Rusli and Anis Unaizah at SUKMA Perlis 2014.

"Three other new national records were set at SUKIPT 2024. Khairul Naim Zainal from UiTM set a record in the men’s K1 event with a time of 37.64s; Syahida Asyiqin Rusli representing Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) achieved a new record in the women’s K1 event with a time of 47.17s; and the UPSI team of Hassan Al Basri Ali and Muhammad Naiem Shahmi Mahusin set a new record in the men’s K2 event with a time of 36.40s," it added.
