KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- The Supplier Technology Showcase & Business Matching Program for Volkswagen's supply chain showcased the potential of local suppliers to join Volkswagen's extensive global supply network.

Organised by Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) in collaboration with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Volkswagen Group Malaysia, the event held at MITI Tower yesterday aims to enhance the competitiveness of Malaysian companies in the automotive sector while driving growth and innovation in Malaysia’s automotive sector.

MARii chief executive officer Azrul Reza Aziz emphasised the significance of such programmes in enabling local suppliers to become global players.

“Our mission is to enhance the competitiveness of local suppliers as aligned with the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP2020) and help them become key contributors on the global stage.

“By encouraging local suppliers to export their parts and components internationally, programmes like this with Volkswagen open vast opportunities. It’s time we looked beyond local business and aimed for global integration,” he said in a statement.

The highlight of the event was the Supplier Technology Showcase and Business Matching session, where 16 participating local suppliers exhibited their latest products and technological innovations at individual booths.

Volkswagen Group team engaged with each supplier, evaluating their capabilities and exploring potential partnerships.

This interactive session showed Volkswagen's commitment to cultivating high-potential local suppliers as part of its global operations.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM) managing director Dr Susanne Lehmann has discussed the rapid growth of the automotive sector within ASEAN, pointing to the increasing vehicle sales volume across the region.

With VGM’s export strategy focusing on the strong demand for models such as Tiguan NF and Tayron in Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, and plans underway to expand the lineup to include battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV) models, she expressed her hope that local suppliers can become key contributors to this export success.
