KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) will bring 10 Malaysian gaming industry players to one of Asia’s largest games exhibitions, the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2024, to enhance Malaysia’s global gaming presence.

The 10 Malaysian game developers and animation studios are Adticles, Ammobox Studios, Bear Down Studios, Dreamscapes Edtech, Esolved MSC, Goolee, Magnus Games Studio, Rcade Studio, Why Knot, and Todak Studios.

The companies will be hosted under the Malaysia Pavilion, coordinated by MATRADE and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

MATRADE chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said MATRADE’s participation at TGS 2024, in close collaboration with MDEC, is a strategic initiative to position Malaysian studios within the global gaming ecosystem.

“Japan has a large pool of gamers, with the user base projected to reach 66 million by 2029.

“In terms of revenue, the Japanese gaming market is forecasted to generate US$44.41 billion (US$1 = RM4.33) by the end of 2024, making it one of the largest and most lucrative gaming markets globally,” he said in a joint statement today.

Echoing Mohd Mustafa, MDEC chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said the partnership underscores MDEC and MATRADE’s commitment to elevating local talents and businesses onto the global stage, fostering innovation, and driving digital economy growth.

TGS 2024 is scheduled to take place from Sept 26 to 29, 2024, at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan.

MATRADE Tokyo will coordinate impactful activities at the Malaysia Pavilion, namely business matching, networking sessions, and media exposure. At the same time, MDEC will hold high-level meetings with Japanese game publishers and tech incubators over the four-day event.

More than 700 exhibitors will participate at TGS 2024, including major Japanese players such as Nintendo, Sony PlayStation, Sega, Square Enix, Capcom, Bandai Namco and Konami.

The global gaming market is estimated to reach US$503.14 billion by 2025, with Asia Pacific set to remain the top gaming market worldwide.
