KEPALA BATAS, Sept 13 (Bernama) — Penang will hold further discussions with three other states involved in the proposed joint organisation of the 2027 SEA Games, according to Penang Youth, Sports and Health committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen.

He said talks with Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will be held after the 21st Malaysia Para Games (Para SUKMA) in Sarawak (Sept 22-28) and the National Sports Day, in October.

“Yesterday, I had a chance to meet Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh where (she informed that) a meeting will be held to discuss further with other states that will jointly host the SEA Games. So we will wait for that,” said Gooi at today’s flag-handing ceremony to the Penang Para SUKMA contingent that will be participating in the 2024 Sarawak Para Games (Para SUKMA XXI).

Daniel was commenting on Penang’s role after the state had agreed to become a co-host of the biennial games.

He said no decision has been made so far on what SEA Games sports will be hosted by Penang and that it will be discussed later in the October meeting.

Earlier, KBS confirmed that Malaysia received an offer from the SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) to host the SEA Games in 2027 and it will involve the cooperation of Sarawak, Sabah and Penang with Kuala Lumpur expected to be the main venue.

Malaysia was the organiser of the 2001 edition of the SEA Games with Johor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan co-hosting a number of sports when the national contingent emerged as the overall champion with 111 gold medals.
