TAIPING, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- The Museums Department (JMM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE), is continuing its educational initiatives to foster a deeper interest in history among students.

Its director-general Datuk Kamarul Baharin A. Kassim said among these efforts is the Museum Innovation Student Inspiration Programme (IPIM), which aims to spark early enthusiasm for historical studies through engaging and interactive museum experiences.

“The programme has been operational since 2015, with a particular emphasis on History, a core subject in the school curriculum,” he told a press conference after the launch of the Semarak @ Muzium Matang programme at the Matang Museum, Kota Ngah Ibrahim, here today.

The event was attended by over 500 visitors, including JMM staff, school teachers, students and members of the local community.

Kamarul Baharin said the IPIM programme targets students aged 10 to 17, requiring them to engage with various educational modules.

He said this initiative will boost students' enthusiasm for learning, especially in History, which is vital for nurturing a sense of patriotism and national pride among our youth.

On the the Semarak@Muzium Matang programme, running from Sept 14 to 15, Kamarul Baharin said it is designed to celebrate heritage through a range of cultural and artistic activities. This initiative spans communities across the Larut Matang and Selama (LMS) district.

“We’re hosting traditional dance and singing competitions for students, alongside artistic performances, shadow puppetry and more,” he said.

“It aims to foster greater understanding and appreciation of our diverse historical and cultural heritage,” he added.
