SIPITANG, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Village heads, Village Development and Security Committees and Rukun Tetangga (neighborhood watch) groups are encouraged to apply for Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) funding to stimulate local economic growth.

Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil said the government allocates up to RM100,000 through the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) to support this initiative, with applications open until Sept 30.

"I encourage all those (eligible) who have not yet applied for SejaTi MADANI funding to do so immediately by obtaining information through the official SejaTi MADANI website," he told a press conference after attending a Hari Bersama Komuniti event at Dewan Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Chung Hwa here today.

Fahmi explained that five sectors are the focus of the SejaTi MADANI programme, namely agriculture and food, sewing and crafts, herbs and health, tourism and hospitality, as well as green activities and recycling.

Earlier, in his speech at the event, he emphasised that the fund, provided by the Federal Government, aims to empower communities through socioeconomic activities.

Additionally, Fahmi urged local communities to take advantage of National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI), as the skills and knowledge offered at these centres could help improve their livelihoods.

"Previously known as Digital Economy Centres (PEDi), they are now NADI, with several enhancements made. The goal is not just for people to gather there but to utilise the skills learned to increase income.

"During my visit to NADI Mesapol earlier, I observed saw local entrepreneurs producing Sarawak layer cakes, this has now reached Sipitang. I went to Kundasang, there were people involved in the production sambal tuhau, it was delicious and NADI can help local entrepreneurs by marketing the products via the internet," he said.

At the NADI Mesapol centre, established last year, Fahmi met with the centre’s management and local entrepreneurs.
