JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Johor Corporation (JCorp), through its subsidiary JLand Group (JLG), has launched new container operations at the Tanjung Langsat Port (TLP), Johor, aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s position in the global oil, gas, and logistics industries.

JCorp said in a statement today that the development is a key step in the country’s broader economic transformation, boosting growth in the southern region.

The launch, officiated by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, marked a significant milestone in Johor’s strategic vision of developing the port into a competitive and efficient gateway for future growth.

“TLP’s expertise in handling bulk, breakbulk, and liquid cargo, particularly in the petroleum and edible oil sectors, has established it as a cornerstone of Johor’s logistics and supply chain network," Loke said.

He also highlighted that the Tanjung Langsat Industrial Complex (TLIC) has attracted RM34 billion in investments and created over 15,500 jobs.

In 2023 alone, Loke said Johor secured RM43.1 billion in investments, generating more than 19,000 jobs, underscoring the state's strategic advantages and industrial strength.

He also commended JCorp's plans to expand the TLIC and develop a new industrial estate in the eastern side of Johor, noting that this expansion will significantly increase container volumes and position TLP as the main gateway for industries within TLIC and the surrounding areas.

''The ministry fully supports TLP's plan to enhance its container facilities to handle the anticipated volume increase in this area. With its container facilities, TLP will play a crucial role in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), contributing to regional economic growth,” he added.

According to the statement, the TLP is developing a third container port in Johor to meet the increasing demand from multinational companies. This initiative, it said, will complement the existing ports, contributing to Johor’s economic growth by attracting investments and creating business opportunities and jobs for the local community.

Additionally, TLP's strategic location has attracted new investments in the renewable energy sector. Hong Kong-based EcoCeres Renewable Fuels Sdn Bhd has committed RM1 billion to develop facilities for producing sustainable aviation fuel, JCorp said. "Construction is underway, with operations expected to begin next year, further boosting job creation and the further development of local businesses," it added.
