KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Egypt has commended the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for its show of support for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, following Israel’s recent campaign against him.
In a statement released on Friday, the spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Cairo’s firm alignment with the Secretary-General.
“Egypt completely and supported it with Al-Sayyed/Antonio Guterres who, throughout his career and professional career, adhered to the United Nations Charter and the principles and values of the Prophet, who called for respect for international law and international humanitarian law, for justice and respect for the right to self-determination.
“He also praised his evident role in supporting international peace and security and his morally inspired stance that he defends with sincerity and complete conviction, as history will witness,” said the statement.
The UNSC expressed support on Wednesday for Guterres after Israel barred him from entering the country and declared him "persona non grata".
