INDONESIA

1. GOLKAR’S LEGISLATIVE INFLUENCE QUESTIONED -- THE JAKARTA POST

Questions have been raised whether the influence of Golkar, the oldest and second-largest political party in Indonesia, has diminished after it failed to secure itself the top seats in the country’s legislative bodies, the House of Representatives and the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR).

 

2. PUBLIC TRUST IN PRABOWO SOARS TO 83.4 PCT AHEAD OF INAUGURATION, SURVEY FINDS -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Indikator Politik Indonesia recorded that 83.4 per cent of the public is confident that President-elect Prabowo Subianto will lead Indonesia toward a better future during his five-year term.

 

CAMBODIA

1. Asian Kickboxing Championship EXCITEMENT in phnom Penh -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE

Athletes participating in the Asian Kickboxing Championship started arriving in Phnom Penh for the event slated from 7 to 13 October. About 600 national and international athletes from 22 countries in Asia are expected to take part in the championship.

 

2. CAMBODIA-TURKIYE BOLSTER MILITARY COOPERATION -- FRESH NEWS

Cambodia and Turkiye discussed strengthening bilateral military ties during a defence officials' meeting on the sidelines of the Korea Army International Defense Industry Exhibition 2024 at Gyeryongdae. Both countries expressed interest in military training, defence industry collaboration and joint capacity building efforts.

 

MYANMAR

1. SMART CARD TO PURCHASE OIL -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

A smart card for fuel purchases has been introduced in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay to collect data on the auto sector. Using the smart card, authorities can collect information on the number of vehicles, type of fuel in demand, vehicle models and fuel consumption patterns. 

 

2. TEAK WOOD SMUGGLING SMASHED -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Law enforcement officers seized about 8,000 tonnes of teak wood and 4,000 tonnes of timber from smugglers in a nationwide operation to curb illicit trading in forestry products. Officials also seized industrial materials and consumer goods that were being smuggled from one state to another.

 

VIETNAM

1. India lifting rice exports ban will not hurt Vietnam trade -- VIETNAMPLUS

India’s decision to lift its ban on non-basmati white rice recently will not affect Vietnam’s rice exports. Vietnam, a major rice exporter, has built an ecosystem in the rice production value chain to mitigate any impact if there is excess supply in the global rice market. 

 

2. CROSS BORDER TRADE GOODS WORTH RM1 BILLION HELD -- VIETNAM NEWS

Vietnam seized illegal goods worth RM1.2 billion (US$305.6 million) in the third quarter of this year, indicating a significant rise in cross-border smuggling. Criminal gangs are using Vietnam’s trade routes to smuggle foodstuffs, cigarettes, diesel fuel, poultry, currency and drugs.
