05/10/2024 06:56 PM

GUA MUSANG, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Farmers who suffer losses to their crops due to damages caused by wild animals can submit claims for compensation from the government.

Gua Musang Member of Parliament Mohd Azizi Abu Naim said the compensation would be given as an allocation by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) to ease the bueden of farmers.

He said NRES has allocated RM10 million to help residents and farmers whose property or crops were affected by wildlife disturbance throughout this year.

“Farmers who are affected by wild animal attacks such as elephants need to come to the Gua Musang Member of Parliament’s Office to make the claim.

“Until Aug 31, only RM343,000 of the RM10 million allocated has been used to pay compensation involving 95 victims across the country,” he said when met by reporters, here today.

Commenting further, Mohd Azizi said police reports related to the incident also need to be attached with the claim application.

“Recently, we have found many incidents of wild animal disturbance in this colony such as elephants that damage crops causing farmers to suffer losses.

“So we ask the victims who live in Gua Musang to take the opportunity provided by the government to reduce the burden they have experienced,” he said.
