KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The Latin American Festival in Malaysia, now in its 15th edition, stands as a testament to the beauty of cultural exchange, friendship, and unity between Latin America and Malaysia, according to Dean of the Latin American embassies in Malaysia Ary Norton de Murat Quintella.

Speaking at the festival on Sunday, Quintella, who is also the Ambassador of Brazil to Malaysia, highlighted the event as a bridge for deepening understanding and fostering mutual appreciation between Latin American countries and Malaysia.

He noted that the festival also celebrates the similarities between Latin America and Malaysia, both of which are rich in biodiversity and cultural heritage, and share a warm and welcoming spirit.

“Our peoples are known for their vibrant festivities, love for music and dance, and rich culinary traditions.

“Just as Malaysia is a melting pot of cultures, Latin America is home to a beautiful mosaic of indigenous, African, and European influences. This diversity enriches our societies and fosters a sense of unity,” added Quintella.

He expressed hope that the Latin American Festival in Malaysia will continue to flourish in the years to come, with each edition strengthening the bond of friendship between the two regions.

Themed "Malaysia Meets Latin America", the festival brought a Latin American atmosphere to BB Park in the heart of the capital today.

Visitors had the opportunity to sample and purchase food, beverages, and crafts from Latin American countries, including tortillas and salsa, Lomito beef (the Argentinian halal beef sandwich), and quinoa products from Peru.

The public was also entertained by various performances of Latin American music and dance, such as the Brazilian Batucada, Chilean folkloric dance, and the Uruguayan Tango.

The event was organised by eight Latin American embassies in Malaysia: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay, with all their heads of mission in attendance.
