PRR Shows Gov't Commitment To Provide Quality Housing For B40 - Deputy Minister

KUALA NERUS, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The Program Residensi Rakyat (PRR), developed by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), demonstrates the government's commitment to providing better quality housing for the people, especially the B40 group.

Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, said that PRR, a rebranding of the People's Housing Programme (PPR), builds upon existing development concepts while incorporating additional elements and scope to offer maximum value for money. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of housing units, promote habitability, and ensure sustainability.

“The PRR is seen to be able to provide profit in the long term, either from the aspect of cost as well as the environment. Among the things that are given attention in the implementation include design, layout, the adoption of cutting-edge applications and technologies, and the provision of energy-saving fixtures and fittings that facilitate efficient maintenance,” she said.

She made these remarks after officiating the Sentuhan Kasih KPKT 2024: PRR Bukit Nenas house key presentation ceremony, today.

She further emphasised that the construction of PRR is a government priority, to ensure adequate housing availability for the B40 group.

She added that the implementation of the PRR aligns with the government's goal of providing 500,000 units of affordable housing nationwide, throughout the 12th Malaysia Plan period.

Additionally, she noted that the PRR Bukit Nenas project, which consists of 500 flat units - including five units designated for individuals with disabilities - is the second project completed by the KPKT. This follows the successful completion of PPR Padang Hiliran in Kuala Terengganu, which comprises approximately 1,000 units.

She highlighted that the project, which involved a total cost of RM96.15 million, received its Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC), as well as the Certificate of Completion of Work (CPC), on Jan 25, 2023, and is equipped with a range of facilities, including nurseries, kindergartens, children's playgrounds, shops, and a surau, fostering opportunities for residents to engage and participate in community activities.

In addition to the two completed projects, KPKT is also in the process of developing PRR Besut, which will feature 450 units of terraced houses, currently under construction, and expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Another PRR project is being planned in Jeram, located in nearby Manir.

She said that the ongoing development of various PRR projects in Terengganu reflects the Unity Government's commitment to collaboration, particularly with the state government, including those governed by the opposition, to ensure the success of projects which benefit the public.

“The government remains open to cooperation with all parties, especially state governments. If they can provide a strategic land location for us to build these PRR homes, we will diligently work to secure the necessary funds," she explained.

“Under the MADANI Government, we have no intention or desire to antagonise any state government, even if they are not aligned with us. We will strive to do our best,” she concluded.
