BACHOK, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- A total of 154 healthcare facility projects nationwide under the 9th Malaysia Plan (9MP) through the 12MP have been or are currently being implemented, involving a cost of RM14.69 billion, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Of the total, he said 111 projects fall under 9MP through 11MP, while 43 projects are part of the 12MP.

“In terms of allocation, the cost breakdown by implementation phase includes 38 projects in the pre-construction (planning) phase with an estimated cost of RM2.33 billion.

“Sixty-four projects are in the construction phase with a cost of RM8.40 billion, and 52 projects are in the post-construction (completed) phase with a cost of RM3.96 billion,” he said at the handover ceremony of the completed Bachok Hospital project, here today.

Also present was Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

Fadillah said the government's priority today is to ensure that the facilities and other public infrastructure provided offer comprehensive benefits and can be fully utilised for the well-being of the people.

In Kelantan alone, the minister said 21 healthcare facility projects have been and are being implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR) under the 10MP through the 12MP.

Fadillah said that these include two projects in the planning phase, six projects in the construction phase, and 13 projects that have been successfully handed over, including two hospitals - the Kuala Krai Hospital and the Tanah Merah Hospital.

“Alhamdulillah, today we are handing over another government project, the Bachok Hospital, to be utilised by the people of Kelantan,” he said.

Bachok Hospital is located in the Gunong district, strategically positioned in the heart of Bachok, just 2.1km from Jelawat Town and 1.3km from the Gunong crossroads.

Fadillah said the hospital has a three-storey building with departmental components, including an operating theatre, a floor dedicated to mechanical and electrical facilities, and a separate building for waste management and ancillary services.

“This facility will undoubtedly provide more comfortable healthcare services for the people of Bachok in particular, and in Kelantan in general.

“Moreover, I have been informed that the local community has eagerly awaited the completion of this hospital as the existing health clinics and rural clinics are limited to initial screening and basic treatment only,” he said.

Fadillah said prior to the completion of the Bachok Hospital, most high-risk cases were referred to Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian, which is 15km away, or to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Bharu, located 20km away.

“With the Bachok Hospital in place, it will help reduce travel costs to hospitals while also providing a socioeconomic boost to the residents in this district.

“I am confident that the handover of essential projects like Hospital Bachok today will bring significant benefits to the people, and I sincerely hope that the community will receive optimal healthcare services for our collective well-being,” he added.
