Collective Cooperation Vital For Nanotechnology Industry Growth - Mosti Sec-gen

BANGI, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The Nanotechnology Standard, Regulatory and Safety Task Force needs collective cooperation from various parties, particularly industry players, to obtain the latest information on the use of nanotechnology materials in multiple products, especially cosmetics and food, said Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim.

Speaking to reporters at the closing ceremony of the National Nanotechnology (nanoKEB) 2024 programme here today, he emphasised the need for the task force to engage in discussions and consult with industry players regarding the commercialisation of nanotechnology and its integration into daily products.

“We also want to expose the public (to information about products containing nanomaterials), so they are not misled even if manufacturers claim that their products utilise nanotechnology,” he said.

Aminuddin said that the task force, which was established last April, comprised four clusters, namely standards, regulatory, safety and education.

He stated that the task force, made up of representatives from MOSTI, experts, lecturers from higher education institutions (IPT), and industry players, was formed to develop safety practices and guidelines for nanomaterials and products.

“We always collaborate with IPT experts, as they conduct extensive research and development. This will result in numerous discoveries, which will help us develop the nanotechnology sector in the future,” he said.

Regarding nanoKEB 2024, Aminuddin said that the five-day programme, which began last Monday, was attended by nearly 1,000 participants, including industry players, university students, experts and researchers from both within the country and abroad.

“The programme aims to gather all experts in the field of nanotechnology to share their experiences, references, and relevant information,” he said.

NanoKEB is a programme jointly organised by the National Nanotechnology Centre, along with several agencies, including the Malaysia Board of Technologists, MIMOS Bhd, Universiti Putra Malaysia, and the Malaysia Nanotechnology Association.

The programme provides a platform for nanotechnology players to exchange the latest knowledge and best practices via conferences, seminars, meetings, technology demonstrations, competitions, and exhibitions conducted throughout the event.

NanoKEB 2024 also acts as a catalyst for raising awareness about the importance of nanotechnology among participants.
