WINDHOEK (Namibia), Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The High Commission of Malaysia in Windhoek, in collaboration with a local Namibian Christian Society has organised a charitable event on Saturday (Oct 12) to cater to over 500 needy Namibians, particularly children and the elderly.
The initiative, held at Damara Busstop on the outskirts of Windhoek, brought together both Malaysian and Namibian communities in a display of unity and inclusivity, according to a statement sent to Bernama by the mission.
Acting High Commissioner Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez, when interviewed by the Namibian Broadcasting Authority and the Namibian Sun newspaper, said that the event reflected the inclusive spirit of both the High Commission and the Malaysian government.
"This activity showcases the inclusiveness of the High Commission of Malaysia and the Government of Malaysia. It is a true reflection of the Madani principle, demonstrating that in unity, we prosper well," he said.
The event featured a variety of traditional Malaysian dishes including ayam sambal, fried mihun and sirap limau ais, alongside three large pots of mixed vegetable soup, halal meat soup, and mince-and-veggie soup.
The food, prepared by wife of the Acting High Commissioner of Malaysia, Datin Noor Zulaikha, and the Christian Society, was warmly received by the attendees.
The smiles and excitement from the attendees, some of whom were experiencing Malaysian food for the first time, truly reflected the success of this event in promoting both charity and cultural exchange, according to the statement.
The event also garnered praise from many attendees and generated excitement among other groups, including members of the minority Muslim community.
It highlighted the cooperation between people of different backgrounds and underscored the religious tolerance that characterises Namibia, a nation of approximately three million people.
