KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated the national professional men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin for winning the Arctic Open 2024 in Vantaa, Finland, tonight.
Through a Facebook post, Ahmad Zahid said that both players displayed extraordinary spirit by bouncing back in the second and third sets after losing the first set, ultimately defeating the world's second-ranked pair from Denmark, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
"It was a truly thrilling match and the comeback of #FeiDin injected a fierce fighting spirit and encouraged inspiration in all of us. Well done, boys! I wish for more success for both of you," he said.
In the final match at Energia Areena, Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin delivered an outstanding performance to clinch their third title of the year. This thwarted the Danish pair's hopes of defending their championship in the Super 500 tournament.
This victory allows them to complete their collection of titles at all four levels of the World Tour (Super 300, Super 500, Super 750, and Super 1000). They took home a cash prize of US$33,180 (approximately RM142,192). Meanwhile, the Danish pair received US$15,960 (RM68,396).
In August, the shuttlers were crowned Japan Open 2024 champions and smashed their way to win last month's China Open title.
