MSAF Hoping For Air Sports To Be Included In SEA Games

14/10/2024 12:26 AM

SERDANG, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Air Sports Federation (MSAF) hopes that the 2024 Air Sports Championship held for the first time in this country can further promote several events under air sports to compete in the SEA Games.

MSAF President Mohd Nurhaqimy Ismail said it was after two of the sports branches, namely paragliding and paramotor, had already been contested at the biennial sports games before.

“We will work hard to promote and establish the sport because air sports is still being regarded a recreation sport. The public doesn't understand what air sports is, they want more people to venture into the field of air sports.

“The perspective among the people is that air sports is dangerous, an endurance sport but that is not correct. In fact, sports other than paragliding have already started to be contested in the states,” he told Bernama in conjunction with the last day of the 2024 Air Sports Championships, here today.

He said that the federation had held several discussions with the Asian Air Sports Federation about plans to further develop the sport and take it to the international level.

“We expect two more years to bring air sports to the international level,” he said.

Mohd Nurhaqimy said the 2024 Air Sports Championship, which is also an air sports festival that started on Friday and ended today, aims to raise the status of air sports which is gaining a place in the hearts of fans, both from inside and outside the country.

During the championship, 40 exhibition booths involving departments and agencies were opened at the air sports festival, in addition to an exhibition of assets and machinery by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Air Force Unit (PGU).

Visitors also had the opportunity to see interesting events such as paramoto, paragliding, aeromodelling and drones.
