SERDANG, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) has been invited to join the Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) to enhance its intellectual property management capabilities.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said TISC is a local centre developed by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) for creators from member countries, including Malaysia.

Through TISC, creators will gain access to the latest technology, research data and information related to protecting and managing intellectual property rights.

"With this invitation, KPDN aims to position MARDI as the 26th host institution within TISC

"MARDI's participation in TISC will enable it to manage intellectual property more effectively, aligning with other coordinating institutions in Malaysia," Armizan told reporters after opening the Agroinvest 2024 Programme  in conjunction with MARDI Innovation Day here today.

MARDI's inclusion in TISC will provide access to a wide range of intellectual property resources, including online access to patent and non-patent databases and publications.

In addition, MARDI will benefit from technology and competitor monitoring, information on industrial property laws, intellectual property management and strategy, as well as technology commercialisation and marketing.

Meanwhile, Armizan said the Agroinvest 2024 programme serves as a platform to promote agricultural innovation and technology, including food products and intellectual outcomes from MARDI’s research, to industry players in Malaysia's agriculture and agro-food sectors.

"KPDN through the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) will continue to strengthen its collaboration with MARDI, especially in managing intellectual property,” he added
