17/10/2024 06:56 PM

NEW DELHI, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of crimes against humanity committed during the recent student-led uprising against her rule.

The three-judge panel, headed by Chairman Golam Mortuza Majumdar, passed the order on the prosecution's request.

"The tribunal passed the order, asking to arrest and subsequently produce her before the court by November 18," chief prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam was quoted as saying by the state news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5 after weeks of protests against her rule.

Bangladesh is prosecuting a number of key figures, including former ministers, associated with Hasina's administration on charges such as murder, human rights violations, and corruption.
