Kg Kunci Air 4 Residents Unite To Help Flood Victims Save Valuables

TELUK INTAN, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- More than 30 residents of all ages from Kampung Kunci Air 4, Labu Kubong, came together to assist neighbouring villagers save household items, particularly electrical appliances, from flood damage by moving them to safer areas.

Village representative, Badrul Hisham Idris, 45, said the initiative started when they noticed that most electrical items, such as washing machines and refrigerators, would get damaged during floods in the neighbouring villages, leading to significant losses for the affected villagers.

"I took a day off today to join other residents to survey homes where the household items can still be rescued. We moved the items to the roadside, and those with suitable vehicles transported them to a nearby hall, which is a safer location," he said when met here today.

He said although their village was not affected by the flood, they wanted to share in the hardships faced by residents in the nearby villages of Kampung Parit 11 and Parit 12, which were the most severely affected, by helping them out.

"As we know, electrical items are bulky and heavy, and placing them in higher spots is difficult, especially in single-storey homes. This is why we decided to help... so that at least these appliances can still be used once the flood subsides," he said.

Meanwhile, orchard owner Mohd Zaini Yahya, 33, said he was informed early in the morning that some villagers needed help due to the rising floodwaters.

He said he made multiple trips to help residents transport their electrical appliances and other valuables from their homes to the Arena Square Kunci Air 4 hall using his four-wheel-drive.

Kampung Parit 11 and Parit 12 are among the worst-hit areas in Hilir Perak district due to heavy rain and the high tide phenomenon, which is expected to last until Monday (Oct 21).
