Malaysia Super 100: Home Challenge In Men's, women's Singles Ends In Q-finals

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's men's and women's singles challenge in the Malaysia Super 100 badminton tournament ended at the quarter-final stage today.

The men's challenge came to an abrupt halt when 20-year-old Justin Hoh went down fighting 21-18, 17-21, 6-21 to top seed Chi Yu Jen of Taiwan in a 70-minute battle.

Justin, who admitted to finding it hard to keep up with world number 33 Yu Jen's punishing pace in the decider, is determined to work on improving his fitness level for future tournaments.

"Today, I just wanted to win, especially since we are playing on home ground. I am a little disappointed. I will try to do better next time. To continue to improve, I need to play against the top shuttlers.

"I'm not too worried (about my current world ranking which is at No 50). I just want to keep on improving,” he said today.

Yu Jen will take on Japan's Koo Takahashi in the last four tomorrow.

There was more disappointment for Malaysia when women's singles shuttlers Ong Xin Yee and K. Letshanaa were sent packing by their Japanese opponents in the last eight.

While the 18-year-old Xin Yee, who came through the qualifying rounds, went down 21-17, 19-21, 4-21 to Akari Kurihara, Letshanaa fell 19-21, 16-21 to Asuka Takahashi.
