Budget 2025: MOT Receives RM750 Mln Allocation To Strengthen Public Transport Sector

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Transport (MOT) received an allocation of RM750 million in Budget 2025 for public transport initiatives in line with the government's goal of reducing the cost of living for the people and improving the quality of public services.

MOT said 44 per cent of the operating allocation will be used for public transport subsidies, which include rail and air services.

"This step is seen as an effort to ensure continuity of the best services for Malaysians in urban and rural areas," according to statement here today.

MOT said the among the important initiatives that will continue are the My50 and Mutiara Pas subsidies, with an allocation of RM226 million, expected to benefit over 180,000 users in the Klang Valley and the north.

Additionally, the Tren Tidak Ekonomik (TTE) subsidy, with an allocation of RM22 million for the Tumpat-Kuala Lipis and an additional route to Gemas, will enhance connectivity between urban and rural areas.

Other initiatives include the Free Travel Pass initiative for students and the persons with disabilities (PwD) group through the KTM Komuter service with an allocation of RM3.942 million.

"Apart from this, the allocation of over RM200 million for rural air services (RAS) subsidy connecting the interior areas of Sabah and Sarawak, including new routes from Kota Kinabalu to Layang-Layang and Miri to Long Banga, is expected to benefit more than 800,000 rural and interior residents of Sabah and Sarawak," it said.

MOT also said the government has allocated RM48 million for subsidies for Flysiswa flight tickets and festive season tickets, which are expected to benefit more than 160,000 people in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

According to the MOT, with the allocation, the ministry is commited to continue supporting economic growth and the welfare of the people through improved accessibility and connectivity across the country.
