ARAU, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has allocated RM100,000 to Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) to enhance learning facilities for children with autism in Perlis through the upgrading of the Open Gym Therapy Facility at the university.
In a statement today, YBR announced that the development project for the therapy facility at the Autism Hub for Educational Resources & Training (A-HEART), located on Level Two of the Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Library Building at the university, features a therapy concept that mirrors the daily life ecosystem experienced by autistic children and those with special needs.
"Based on a more inclusive education approach for those in need, YBR, in collaboration with A-HEART UniMAP and the Tuanku Syed Putra Foundation, has upgraded the Open Gym Therapy Facility at the A-HEART Hub to enhance the well-being of individuals with autism, themed 'Sejahtera & Lestari.'
"A-HEART began planning the development of the Open Gym in September 2023 in partnership with YBR and Senze for Mindz Therapy Centre in Kangar. This initiative includes selecting therapy equipment tailored to the needs of autistic children and those with special needs," according to the statement.
The statement was issued in conjunction with today's official opening of the Open Gym Therapy Facility at UniMAP by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the Chancellor of UniMAP.
Also present was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of UniMAP.
YBR general manager Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani, in the statement, said that providing well-developed facilities is part of YBR's commitment to ensuring that autistic children can participate in learning sessions comfortably and safely, while also helping to unlock their potential.
Syaiful Rizal said that for 2024, YBR has allocated RM13.4 million through its Education Development Programme initiative.
