KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) is in full support of the recently announced Rakan KKM programme, a government initiative that could open access for affordable and quality healthcare services.

Its Chief Executive Officer Mark O'Dell described the programme as a positive step towards better healthcare for all Malaysians, raising public awareness and help people make better choices about their health and insurance needs.

O'Dell stated that LIAM welcomes Health Ministry’s (MOH) ongoing discussions with private health insurers to include Rakan KKM services in their policies, which he perceives could open new opportunities for life insurance industry to collaborate with the government and healthcare providers.

“Insurance companies can support Rakan KKM’s health campaigns through community programs and by offering products that align with public health efforts, which could boost demand for health-related insurance products.

"LIAM looks forward to learning more details about Rakan KKM from the MOH and is committed to contributing to the success of this  programme," he said in a statement here today.

On Oct 18, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim while tabling the Budget 2025 in Dewan Rakyat, announced the Rakan KKM initiative which involves collaboration with government-linked investment companies (GLIC) to provide paid health service options at affordable rates.

This initiative designed with the goal of taking the public healthcare system to even greater heights and addressing the rising cost of healthcare also aims to ensure a more resilient, sustainable, and self-sufficient public health service system.
